Head coach Willis Foxxy Ojal has named a great mix of youth and experience (some being fossils of course) as the team looks to kickstart its sevens campaign.

Experienced fossil Charles “Akaranga” Kanyi captains the team, and will be assisted by Marvin “Slammers” Sumba.

Kenya Sevens international Oscar Dennis returns to don the Nondies jersey in Mombasa. Speaking of internationals, Ugandan James Odong also makes the team, as he looks to further impress his national team’s selectors ahead of the Dubai Sevens.

Simon Ngugi is the only forward to make the team, which automatically shoots him alpha male of the lion pride this weekend.

Senior players Enock Markinga, James Evans and Eric Ombachi will also make the cut. They will be expected to guide and lead the younger trio of Edwin Mwaseru, Phares Mbadi and Brian Amaitsa at the coast.

Long serving Nondies physio George Odhiambo joins the team alongside the ever reliable Kevin Were who retains his team manager role.

Nondies chairman Auka Gecheo has expressed his confidence in the team which leaves for Mombasa on Friday morning aboard the Standard Gauge Railway locomotive departing at 9am.

“I seriously believe this is a fantastic team. There’s no pressure so go out there and enjoy your rugby, and bring back a trophy,” the chairman said.
